Leslie Stapp

Welcome!

Thank you for considering my psychotherapy practice. I am a Certified Jungian Analyst and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in Whittier, California. I work with individual adults and teenagers, and specialize in the treatment of college students, teachers, and people experiencing mid- and later-life transitions.

Why seek therapy?

It's common to feel uncertain or uncomfortable in the face of change. Most people feel stress when negotiating demands of college or a career, managing relationships, dealing with unintentional or intentional body changes, adapting to adulthood, transitioning during mid- and later-life, or losing a loved one, for example. Sometimes, though, stressors like these can throw you for a loop and summon your worst demons. Uncertainty and discomfort can morph into self-doubt, disappointment, crippling feelings of inferiority, anxiety, or compulsive behavior. As a result, you might feel hopeless, alienated, misunderstood, and as if life were meaningless.

My approach to therapy

Especially in the beginning, symptom management is important. If you are feeling anxious, depressed, unmotivated, or socially isolated, for example, we will work together to find ways to help you cope. Additionally, I will provide a warm and supportive environment where you may explore your unique purpose in life. I believe that my two decades of experience studying and teaching philosophy, along with my passion for and training in Jungian psychology, make me especially well-suited for facilitating this process.

I will attend carefully and non-judgmentally to your story and feelings, and try to understand the meaning underlying your symptoms. Depending on your comfort level and goals, we may draw on elements of Jungian analysis such as shadow and dream work, active imagination, and archetypal imagery.
